PLANT COVER MUST BE PROTECTED
“The most effective cure against carbon emissions, which are a huge issue in global warming, is without doubt protecting and widening plant cover. Tree growing and tree agriculture aiming at mass raw wood material production, which is the answer to that problem, serves the economy, as well as the environment and is sensitive towards social responsibility.”
Ali Nihat Gökyiğit
ENAT is the first company founded with the purpose of industrial forestation in our country after the Foundation and Development of Industrial Forest Plantations Project. Under the leadership of Ali Nihat Gökyiğit, the company was founded in 2005 by 25-6 founding partners; its full title is Endüstriyel Ağaç Tarımı Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi.
The purpose of the project can be summarized as ensuring better protection of our natural forests by reducing the production pressure put on them, meeting the increased need for raw materials and decreasing dependency on foreign markets, the prevention of erosion, the reduction of carbon emissions, the creation of new employment areas, and contributing to rural development.
ETERNAL RE-FORESTATION WORK
With this project, the basic aims are performing industrial forestation in at least 300 hectares of land in the areas to be obtained from degraded forest lands and government lands, which need forestation, as well as third and fourth class agricultural areas in private ownership in the Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean regions, producing small diameter wood needed by the fiber-chip, paper, and packaging industries, and reforesting areas which are vacated after the last output, cutting some 18-20 years after the sapling planting date.
COOPERATION AMONG MINISTRIES, UNIVERSITIES, TEMA, AND INSTITUTES
Parallel to the population increase of our country, the need for raw wood material is rapidly increasing. 93% of of the industry’s raw wood demand is met by natural forests or purchasing from overseas resources. With such ideas as protecting our naturals forests better, decreasing dependency on foreign markets, contributing to rural development, creating employment, and making medium to long-term profitable investments, which aim at sensitivity initiatives, the project entitled “The Foundation and Development of Industrial Forest Plantations Project” was prepared in Turkey with the cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and Forests and TEMA foundation, the contributions of Istanbul and Düzce Forest Faculty, the technical assistance of The Rapidly-Growing Forest Trees and Poplar Growing Research Institute and was prepared and put into implementation after ENAT was founded.
